Entry 7: Framing the perfect interview

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

During the production of my documentary, I have tried to get all my footage as early as possible so I can then focus on putting it all together.

I have my final interview booked in for next week, but I have also decided that I want to re-do the interviews with both Lillie and her mum (see entries 3 & 4).

The reason for this is two-fold.

Firstly, I feel looking back on the footage that the responses given, especially from Lillie, aren't powerful enough to have an impact on audiences.

When I head back to Lillie's home on the 23rd of November, I want her to tell me more about why Fortnite is so special in comparison with other games. I also want to record her reactions to dying or even winning a game to understand the range of emotions a child experiences during a single match of Fortnite.

In term's of the mum, even though the content she gave me was good, I am really frustrated at how I framed the interview. We conducted the interview in the kitchen which lacked space meaning she looked slightly un-comfortable and almost trapped within her own home. Next time we will record the footage in area with more space so she feels much more relaxed.

Even though its frustrating that I have to re-do parts of my documentary, I want to ensure it looks the best it can be. From my perspective, I am glad I still have time before submission to gather extra shots if required.

This is how I framed the interview with Lillie's mum Liz (see above)
